Velma I. Shull, 1914-2003, Otterville

Velma Irene Brown Shull, 89, of Otterville, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at her home.

She was born Feb. 14, 1914, in Rockland, a daughter of Walter Edgar and Louvenia Tullis Brown. On Nov. 17, 1942, in Sedalia, she was married to Robert M. Shull, who died Oct. 30, 1978.

Mrs. Shull owned and operated several different second hand shops with her husband. She enjoyed dancing at the Alamo in Sedalia and going to rummage sales. She also liked spending time with her cat, fishing and having coffee at Griff's and at Hardees on East Broadway Boulevard.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews, including Ernest W. Kowalski and Velma Bozarth, both of Otterville, Ernest E. Brown, of Clifton City, and Velma N. Rico, of Kansas City, all of whom she raised in her home as her own children.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Ernest Walter and William M. Brown; and two sisters, Edna Marie Brown and Nealie Brown Boggs.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Ewing-Schutte & Semler Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Tygart officiating. Pallbearers will be Johnny Bozarth, Ernie Bozarth, Dale Vinyard, Paul Perkins, James Dingus and Bradley Dugan. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until service time Friday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Mid-Missouri Humane Society.
